Latest training infrastructure available
In Thun the Mechanised Training Centre (MAZ) provides and runs the entire training infrastructure for simulator training from private to battalion level for combat forces and some of the support troops.
For this purpose the ELTAM – the electronic tactics simulator, the electronic shooting installation (ELSA Leo II WE) for the Leopard battle tank 87 as well as the driving simulators (FASPA) are available for mechanised units (incl. infantry battalions).
The Land Forces Training Centre (AZH) is located in Walenstadt and essentially has to accomplish the following missions:
- centralisation of cross-sectional areas of the Land Forces, primarily through its training units
- training of professional, single term conscript and militia cadres
- coordination and concentration of procedures relating to 'tests, operational procedures and revision of regulations'
- certified combat training.
